BULIMIA

How Serious is Bulimia?
Bulimia is a serious condition and is life threatening. A psychological condition leaving the patients identity and self esteem dependant on body weight and image. The patient has a mistaken belief that they are overweight and have a distorted image of themselves. They may well eat excessive quantities of food however they would adopt such behaviour to avoid weight gain as self vomiting. Using Laxatives, diuretics, enemas, prolonged periods of fasting or exercising to the extreme are all common signs.
These symptoms would occur frequently, however vomiting would be done in private and the patient is unlikely to admit or be aware that there is an issue at all.
Bulimia affects both sexes with an average age of onset being 18; however the age can be much younger or older.
So how does bulimia cause hair shedding?
Our body goes into a state of self preservation protecting the vital organs when not given adequate nutrients. The skin which is the largest organ of the body is less protected resulting in body and scalp hair shedding. Organs may well suffer serious consequences including, liver, heart, kidneys, endocrine and nervous system and blood. If treatment is not received, multiple organ failure can result. Suicidal tendency is possible.
What is required to help this condition?
Medication is needed urgently from your GP. You may find that nutritional therapy along with psychotherapy may assist in recovery. Homeopathy is another possible line of enquiry.
